After first exploring the loss of lament and the resulting consequences, the project proposes a homiletic of story weaving, as a relational, collaborative, organic method. This collaborative methodology is then utilized in the preparation of three sermons on biblical texts of lament. It is intended to help students develop the skill of choosing a sermon structure appropriate to the text being preached.  Inasmuch as the conviction of the writer is that the first place to look for the structure of the sermon is in the text itself, the manual is entitled 'A Manual for Text-Driven Preaching.' The manual explains a six-step process for developing sermons that are true to the form as well as the meaning of the text. The work includes a comprehensive word study on prayer and exegesis of significant prayer passages, including Jesus' prayer instructions in Matthew and Luke. The project provides analysis of the relationship between prayer, faith and the sovereignty of God and the goal of prayer. The project used preaching, small groups and prayer journals as project methods. Chapter 1 helps the reader understand the context of the community and the characteristics of the church where this project was conducted. It also includes a listing of the goals to be achieved. Chapter 2 examines the biblical, theological, and historical issues relevant to lay ministry. Old and New Testament texts present the basis for lay ministry. The theological issues addressed are the priesthood of believers, the role of spiritual giftedness, and the dynamics of expository preaching. Examination of the historical scene goes from the New Testament gospels to the early fourth century. Chapter 3 focuses on the dynamics of team development and team work. Also included are four benefits of team ministry. Chapter 4 is the presentation of the project as it moved through the process of team selection, development, and training. The Bible addresses more than just the stewardship of the money and material possessions we have.  It also speaks to issues related to the stewardship of our time and talents. However, this project focuses exclusively on the stewardship of our finances. In summary, chapter 1 of the project provides introductory and background material on the context in which the project was implemented.  It also provides a rationale for the project.  Chapter 2 examines the biblical, theological and historical principles and practices of financial stewardship.  Chapter 3 discusses the sociological, psychological and motivational aspects of philanthropy, as well as offers a few ideas about the ways we are motivated to give in the Scriptures. After a series of sermons from humorous texts, hearers of various personality types were tested to assess awareness of biblical humor and the achievement of pedagogical benefits. Chapter 2 presents a study of the historical and biblical issues of teaching bible doctrine.  Contemporary learning techniques and their impact on expository preaching are addressed in chapter 3.  Chapter 4 describes the ministry action plan for teaching six major doctrines to the church through twelve expository sermons.
