Family homework assignments reinforce the monthly sessions. After two years the participating families are strongly committed to this alternative program, and it is being expanded in its third year. By using such things as lectures on optimal family functioning, sculpting, circular questions, homework, and redescription questions, it seeks to help couples become aware of and change the family of origin relational processes which inhibit greater marital satisfaction.  Relational processes in six areas are focused on: roles, emotional expression, individuation, power distribution, communication, and subsystems.
