The author developed and deployed a seminar for ascertaining whether an increased understanding of the security of the gospel (i.e., union with Christ) could help Christians engage their troublesome emotions and assist them in the dissolution of negative affect (guilt, fear, or shame). The components of the 'Adaptive Courage' model include irrational thoughts, emotional sabotage, relational seclusion, volitional inaction, and spiritual inattentiveness with their counterparts ensnared opportunity, humble confidence, selective vulnerability, incremental tenacity, and simple transcendence. Ten diverse leaders participated in individual intake and teaching sessions and follow-up debriefing and assessment sessions.
