The author used a phenomenological approach answering these two questions. Firstly: how do Filipino missionaries describe the effects of their training in terms of their cultural adjustments, spiritual lives, work with teams, and the outcomes of their missionary activities? Secondly: how do they describe their need of further personal and professional training? The purpose of this research was to identify those attitudes and practices.  The method employed to investigate this thesis was case study research of two church planting ministries among Muslim Filipinos.  This was done through a questionnaire and follow-up interviews.  This research identified attitudes such as faith, biblical optimism, and humility as helpful attitudes in church planting. The study focuses on how the experiences of the Filipino immigrants' practice of the faith and participation in ecclesial lay ministry reveal their cultural conditioning; and in turn how culture conditions their living of the faith. The author used qualitative research methodology. The research tools used for theological reflection are the questionnaire, the semi-structured interview and the group sessions. The author traces the historical, cultural, and other significant factors that have influenced Filipino men and their leadership development.  He also points out practices in the Roman Catholic religion and in the Protestant mission groups that have contributed to the lack of Filipino male leaders in the Philippine Christian church. The author then proceeds to take a fresh look at what the Scripture says about evangelism and church growth.  He then attempts to apply these qualities in the Philippine cultural context.
