Congregation members attended a community development conference, participated in small group book studies, and engaged with a blog focused on an empowerment model of mission ministries. These activities prompted small but significant changes to existing ministries. Fewer givers gave more: annual per capita giving increased 25%.  Responses to 3,034 congregational surveys indicated positive correlation between increased generosity and stewardship leadership, spiritual nurture, social justice involvement, and stewardship best practices.  Congregations where givers and revenue increased, with individual annual giving over {dollar}1,000, more often engaged all of these strategies.  Congregations with decreasing revenue were least likely to use any of them. He surveyed numerous campus ministers, did some case studies, and did independent research into budgets.  The author found that some ministries lost one hundred percent of their funding in the blink of an eye while others were thriving. Small congregations experience these times intensely because of their fewer resources. A survey of Unitarian Universalist congregations of less than 100 members was conducted about how their endowments were managed considering  identity and context. Generally, these congregations were in trouble with declining memberships, inaction toward changes in community context, and poor endowment management. Endowments were managed mostly independent of any sense of congregational narratives-the expressions of the congregations' identities and purposes. This project explores the effectiveness of an educational process designed to identify the content of these early experiences, examine the Biblical witness concerning stewardship, and provide an opportunity for decisions about behavioral change. Giving behavior of adult leaders from the United Church of Christ is also examined in relation to income, education, generation, and theological perspective.
