Through tools that support the exploration of the biblical, spiritual, physical and occupational aspects of vocation, individuals are able to better connect to their spiritual gifts and this in turn facilitates discernment of their vocational calling. She formed a study group, stressed the importance of congregational fellowship, and taught about spiritual gifts. The group remained open to the guidance of the Holy Spirit, took an inventory, and sought to use their gifts in the community. The class completed an evaluation and the author developed a gifts guide. A spiritual-ministries view identifying charismata as ministry roles was developed. The researcher concluded that spiritual gifts are roles Christians are called to fill; natural talents (identified through StrengthsFinder personality assessment) are critical factors in filling those roles. Spiritual strengths occur as natural talents are applied to spiritual gifts. The project involves working with curriculum action research embedded within one-day ministry discernment events for laity. Measurement tools include a spiritual gift inventory, repeated measures Likert questionnaires, a short-term photovoice exercise, and semi-structured interviews.
