I did this by researching books and periodicals and a grief seminar which included a before and after survey. An initial deacon's retreat provided an opportunity for the deacons to renew their spiritual life and knowledge of the office of deacon. Following research and consultation with an expert in the academic realm, the project director developed and led four teaching sessions. The tentative project methodology included lectures, PowerPoint presentations, videotapes, music, case-studies, role-plays, and hands-on activities. The author wrote four sermons and planned four worship services based on those sermons. She charted questions on a Likert continuum, adding open-ended and reflection questions on a second page, and solicited volunteers to participate in the research. Seven worshipers volunteered, and attended four consecutive Sunday services, reflecting, answering questions on the form, and being interviewed.
