Chapter one introduces the content and methodology of the project and defines the context of the church in which it was implemented.  Chapter two sets forth the biblical and theological basis of the project, focusing on two key passages concerning spiritual renewal: 2 Chronicles 7:11-14 and Isaiah 6:1-8.  Chapter two also examines scriptural and doctrinal perspectives on the Holy Spirit. Chapter three evaluates the lessons of past spiritual awakenings.  The chapter addresses the First and Second Great Awakenings and the Prayer Revival of 1857-1858.  Chapter four describes the project's methodology and implementation. The theological method of the Wesleyan Quadrilateral is used with the understanding that Tradition, Experience and Reason are subservient to the primary source of Scripture. A literature review revealed several areas where preachers believe the Spirit brings anointing to a sermon including the personal preparation of the preacher, the sermon, the listener, the preaching event itself, and the Word of God.  A survey of 178 Church of God (Anderson, Indiana) pastors was conducted.  The thesis of this study is that people anticipate different evidence of the Spirit's presence and activity with a primary focus on emotion or content. The focus group for the study were ministerial preparation students at Faithful Central from diverse denominational backgrounds. Thirty students attended two-hour sessions for ten weeks. Qualitative data analysis instruments evaluated the results of the study. Pre- and post-tests, quizzes and course evaluations showed that the students developed a clear understanding of the manifestation of the Holy Spirit's gifts at Faithful Central Missionary
