The author is an ordained minister in the International Pentecostal Holiness Church (IPHC). Historically, the IPHC has been hostile to differing views from the one they currently hold, the 'classical' Pentecostal interpretation. However, there is currently a movement within the IPHC to be more appreciative of other evangelical, non-Pentecostal interpretations. The author used evangelical resources to develop a seminar to increase Pentecostals' understanding of evangelical, non-Pentecostal perspectives on the doctrine of baptism in the Holy Spirit, with emphasis on the issues of subsequence and initial physical evidence. The seminar brought the evangelical perspectives into dialogue with the 'classical' Pentecostal interpretation. The seminar was presented at Emmanuel College in Franklin Springs, Georgia, an IPHC college. The seminar participants were students from the School of Christian Ministries. Pre-test and post-test survey questionnaires were given prior to and immediately after the seminar. Out of 50 students, 26 (52%) indicated an increase in understanding of the evangelical, non-Pentecostal perspective."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791131358301519872,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:46:13.722Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T13:08:00Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T03:21:53Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"c9613ed7-2589-4b6f-9ec7-23c9ac3b04c1","accessControl_ssim":["b1f5693d-6c7e-4f1b-8121-bb74dfefe8a9"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Similarities and differences between Pentecostal and non-Pentecostal leaders in understanding the anointing of the Holy Spirit"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T13:08:00Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T03:54:58Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["77f0248f-9995-44ac-adf4-3bfe01080ace"],"hasLease_ssim":["0f2d1b26-e6a0-4a36-a405-f69c707bb38b"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Trinity Evangelical Divinity School"],"advisor_tesim":["James E Plueddemann"],"year_tesim":["2009"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Astrid Rohini Aiyadurai"],"keyword_tesim":["Theology, Pentecostal","Theology, Evangelical"],"publisher_tesim":["Trinity Evangelical Divinity School"],"subject_tesim":["Baptism in the Holy Spirit","Holy Spirit--History of doctrines","Theology","Word of God (Christian theology)"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This project researched the similarities and differences between Pentecostal and non-Pentecostal leaders in understanding the anointing of the Holy Spirit. The literature search examined biblical, theological, and historical foundations. The field research was conducted using a basic questionnaire with twenty questions to conduct open-ended, guided interviews. The sample consisted of key Pentecostal leaders from the Assemblies of God and key non-Pentecostal evangelical leaders serving in strategic positions with ministry experience of over twenty-five years. The literature search revealed that theologians and practitioners of church history who overemphasized either the Word or the Spirit fell into error, portrayed a lack of balance, and caused division in the church. The field research revealed that despite the differences in theologies and labels, the work of the Spirit was pretty similar. By distinguishing too sharply between the Word and the Spirit, the church has lost an important biblical perspective and fractured the Body of Christ. Building bridges across denominational boundaries will help to unite and strengthen the church, which must be grounded in the Word and empowered by the Spirit."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Trinity Evangelical Divinity School"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["c654e922-76d0-4427-ac29-e286b7997781"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799721439491784704,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T03:21:53.529Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T13:02:52Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:53:52Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"3777aba9-9776-4d14-a30b-29e54aa64bec","accessControl_ssim":["b709e3ff-33be-4568-afea-263cb0f6b17a"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["'Holy Fire': a congregational training manual on the Holy Spirit in the preaching moment"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T13:02:51Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T23:44:25Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["faa06659-46b5-439d-8481-7fec2396e15e"],"hasLease_ssim":["1414982b-55a7-417b-8e5e-e333d8adde2a"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["John M Yeats"],"year_tesim":["2009"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Byron L Brown"],"publisher_tesim":["Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Handbooks and manuals","Pastoral theology","Holy Spirit--History of doctrines"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The 'Holy Fire' study enabled the church body to move from passive observers to active participants in the worship service.
