First United Methodist Church, Chambersburg, Pennsylvania is located in the mid section of the downtown area and has a membership primarily of people who 'drive into church.' This project provides a strong biblical and theological foundation for hospitality. The background includes both the Hebrew traditions of the Old Testament and the 'kingdom covenant' set forth by Jesus in the New Testament. The study confirmed the author's thesis that these ministries are unified by a culture of hospitality through the theme of 'welcoming the stranger.'  This project was designed to study how this culture of hospitality has been experienced by this congregation.
