Trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder in the experience of disasters, especially as they relate to loss of place, are studied. Identification with place and the loss of place in the Katrina disaster are examined, specifically at Grace Episcopal Church and the Mid-City neighborhood. He examined biblical texts and early church writings to illustrate hospitality as an experience of grace. The author then raised questions regarding the appropriate personal and social responses to that grace. Because of his Katrina experience, both people and pastor re-learned that hospitality was a necessary practice in the faith community. This project explores how a congregation of today might recover the catechumenate, a dynamic pattern of catechesis and formation that accompanies baptism and profession of faith for adults. Because this ministry depends on both laity and clergy participation, a model proposed by Daniel Benedict is used with current members of a local congregation in order to experience the shape and feel of such a ministry.
