Thus while the Igbo naming ceremony makes one an Igbo, the rite of baptism makes one a Christian.  The author analyzed the Anglican rite of baptismal ritual as it is contained in The Book of Common Prayer in the light of Turner's theory of rituals.  He used missional theology as a lens to examine the rite of baptism in the Igbo context of eastern Nigeria. Thus, its cosmological and sociological origins also serve as a pathway to its structural reconfiguration through an inculturated ministerial model of accompaniment, championed by widows in collaboration with the Church and the culture.
