Why does a children's sermon sometimes engage adults in a more compelling way than the sermon prepared for adults? Are there connections between the principles of expository preaching and the very things in a good children's sermon that holds the attention of the adults listening? Continuing that faith is a problem facing its multi-national members living in North America since the late eighteenth century. Specifically the problem centers on a single parish in Berkley, Michigan where second and third generation descendants of Middle Eastern immigrants are losing interest in the church and the cultural heritage of their parents. The Bible, itself, reveals examples of familial problems between parent and child. Some modern authors have made suggestions of ways to better parent and child relationships. However, what about intergenerational barriers in the outer society, for example, in the church? Can one create a bridge between senior and youth members of a congregation through the use of storytelling or the sharing of life experiences and then using this connection as a venue in producing joint ministry experiences in a congregation? The purpose of this study is to answer these questions. This project is divided into four parts designed to bring the teenage and 50+ adult groups together with the final portion, also, serving as an evaluation opportunity. Using selected women, the writer facilitated discussions to provide a framework for female solidarity. Members of the Bible study group grew spiritually and attained a sense of belonging and connectedness as they shared beliefs, experiences, values, and needs.
