At the heart of the project were on-site focused interviews with seven staffs (one being a married couple), serving in three major Protestant denominations in varying geographic and socio-economic settings in the Northeast.  Although the data was insufficient to draw statistical conclusions, data suggested that these ministries can be effective in symbolic value, diversified gifts, and wider specializations. It argues that Christian community is not the effect of faith in God, but is the manifestation of that faith.  The author makes the case for a relational faith.  Theology rather than psychology or sociology is the basis for understanding congregational life.  A planning group assessed the needs of this congregation.  A set of proposals was generated.  They included retreats, meals, a photo directory, etc.  A questionnaire was used for evaluation.
