Southern New England Conference"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This project is an investigation into some of the factors involved in the decision to leave the parish ministry by some members of the Southern New England Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church.  The study was limited to those who had spent a minimum of five years in the parish after becoming ordained.  An attempt was made to look at roles, family dynamics, and relationships with the system of the denomination.  All subjects were mailed questionnaires, and a portion of the subjects were interviewed. The project included a face-to-face interview with most members of the congregation to obtain member responses concerning their own Christian participation and needs, together with their views of the life of the congregation and work of its leadership.  All of this was compared with the results of a major biblical study about the church. This thesis/project is a descriptive study of the premarital counseling practices of a sample of 20 pastors in the Presbytery of Genesee Valley, New York, who were interviewed to ascertain their practices concerning inclusion of discussion of five areas of marital satisfaction which appear to be important for the content of premarital counseling: background information, communications, money, religion, and sexuality.  There is a wide divergence in the premarital counseling practices of pastors.  Some do an excellent job, but the majority of the sample appear to be struggling or frustrated in their practice of premarital counseling.
