Examples abound in the Old Testament where God's people and messengers are exhorted to declare tot he nations with joyful song and testimony what the Lord God Almighty has done. In the New Testament, the angels who brought the Good News to the shepherds, the Lord Jesus Christ himself and the apostles furnish practical illustrations of joyful exuberance in proclaiming the gospel. But there seems to be a dearth of recipients and custodians of the Good News who are eager to go out and share the gospel with joyful passion powered by the joy of the Lord. This project embarked on recruiting and motivationally training believers from churches in USA to become confident and joyful participant sharers of the Good News. At such a crossroads they may lose the joy of the adventure of faith alongside any deeper understanding of what happens in worship. This project focuses on such a congregation. The project explores how a theology of play may deepen understandings of worship and allow for the recover of a joyful attitude about a church's life together. The biblical and theological dimensions are first investigated.  Experiential data are then drawn from Appreciative Inquiry interviews of fifteen Episcopal clergy regarding events in their ministries which have brought them significant joy.  Extensive discussion of the philosophical and theological dimensions of Appreciative Inquiry, an experientially based organizational development tool, is included.
