Many Korean-American churches suffer due to the divisions caused by the generation gap and cultural barriers between the Korean and English-speaking congregations.  The Joy Korean-American Church created a model of 'blended worship' in order to overcome the disharmony and distrust, and to reconcile the differences of the two congregations. They have been tamed in the patriarchal social system for so many years that they now support this value system and reject women's independence, self-identities, and public leadership.  The author set up a Bible study program to meet the special goal of helping the women of the Christ Central United Methodist Church to understand their own lives and situations. This Bible study program is designed to be an extension and a continuation of the monthly gathering of the Women's Mission Group (YeoSunkoWhoe: United Methodist Women).  five sessions will be carried out over the period of five months. Each session comprises a Bible study, discussion, report, and dinner. The Bible study is focused on the lives of the five women in the Bible. The participants will have opportunities to observe the lives of these women in the Bible and reflect their stories on the participant's own lives. It focuses upon the unique influence of Korean han as becoming an impediment for development transforming lay leadership in the Korean-American churches.  Han-ridden laity have suffered from the negative symptoms of han such as anger, vengefulness, resentfulness, helplessness, anxiety, psychoenurosis, and so on. Because of a negative effect of han, the immigrant churches have difficulties in mobilizing the human resources in terms of lay ministry. It is necessary to overcome the broken relationship with the Triune God and neighbors. This dissertation offers a particular way of lay leadership development by renewing the broken relationship. The essential identity of this dissertation is formed by the word 'intermediary leader.' Even though he/she was a han-ridden person, an intermediary leader takes care of his/her followers as the wounded healer. This dissertation attempts to critically reflect upon the application of H. R. Niebuhr's thought of 'responsible being' and Simon Weil's idea of 'intermediary.' This project investigates what Korean han is and what the influences of han are. For transforming the influences of han into the power of lay leadership, it suggests han-poori ministry as transforming lay ministry.  Han-poori ministry is designed for releasing han-ridden laity from the bondage of han.  It is developed in several components such as 'awakening step,' 'disentanglement step,' and 'engagement step.' Through these steps, the han-ridden laity are enabled to be intermediary lay leaders. Korean Americans should develop worship and eucharistic forms that agree with Korean tradition and culture and harmonize with the Korean psyche. The author suggests that Korean immigrant churches should develop a Eucharist that is both contextual and based on the World Council of Churches' document Baptism, Eucharist and ministry.
