Included are the family systems theories of Bowen and Friedman, McGoldrick and Walters' feminist critiques, Aristotle's definition of friendship, Buber's I-Thou theory of relationships, a survey of presbytery leaders, and interviews with pastors successful and unsuccessful in defining, establishing, and maintaining Christian friendship. The thesis correlates the type of leadership the pastor uses to the amount of leadership the lay people exhibit.  The research includes writing papers on leadership and the Body of Christ.  A leadership questionnaire will be used.  A ministry task will be reported detailing each aspect of leadership and delegation and follow through. An effort to build a trust relationship had to begin.  To accomplish this, the congregation had to understand the pastor in certain images. These images, servant, child, friend, and partner, would be topics of sermons describing the congregation and pastor. This understanding would assure the acceptance of pastor and congregation.  The enlistment of a small response group of church members and a spiritual mentor proved to be helpful.
