This project develops and implements a twelve-session training program with ten participants on lay caring ministry in a church.  The results include an increase in the congregation's acceptance of lay involvement in ministry, especially caring; a broadening in the congregation's concept of caring for others; an increase in the participants' willingness to be accepting of others and in their ability to provide lay caring ministry; and the development by the participants of many specific ministries. The methodology involved setting up the kind of learning atmosphere that would allow the adults to utilize each other as the primary resources for learning. He established the need through personal evaluation and a survey, and then developed the training program and relayed the dynamics of the training sessions. The project develops exegetical and historical perspectives of spiritual gifts and devises a strategy for church growth utilizing spiritual gifts.  Participants identified their spiritual gifts by participating in a spiritual gifts workshop.  The workshop divided participants into two ministry groups and facilitated their exercising those gifts in ministry.  A church growth committee, comprised of persons with the gift of administration, developed plans for growth.  Gifted participants, possessing other spiritual gifts, made those plans a reality. Through survey and analysis of the self-understanding of a number of church lay leaders, the more significant factors are isolated and described. Results of the research indicate that family and sacramental factors are highest on the list of contributors to these leaders' development. The author gathered data from biblical, theological, sociological, and psychological sources in order to design a training manual for training local church volunteers to minister as grief counselors.  Volunteers were selected by their minister and trained to understand the dynamics of grief, to counsel, and to make referrals when their counseling skills were limited.  Part I explains the dynamics of grief.  Part II presents the training manual.
