A number of personal interviews were conducted with people in the church who had been hospitalized or bereaved in the last year.  Each was asked how many church people other than pastoral staff or their own family visited them during their difficult time.  A Sunday school class was then offered to train laypeople in such visitation skills, accounting for a variety of situations. Development of the 'Prepare and Serve' program follows andragogical theory and practice and is adapted to existing Christian education programs.  The project was evaluated after two years of operation using participant questionnaires and interviews of selected participants. The project conducted three seminars for church leaders concerning child abuse and its effects, self-esteem among black males, and substance abuse. These mentors were paired with seven first offenders referred by the juvenile court. Pre-testing and six-month post-testing measured the influence of the project. The project employed four key groups including a Rediscovering Your Spiritual Gifts class, Search Groups in preparation for a 'Weekend of Discovery,' a 'Weekend of Discovery' renewal program, and a Disciple Bible Study.  The project conducted interviews with 34 church members using 21 questions.
