A model that will effectively assist pastors in the mobilization of Christians into twenty-first century church ministry is the team-based model. This model best addresses the ecclesiological mandates within the twenty-first century cultural terrain. The researcher sought to determine if a positive relationship existed between equipping lay leaders with teambuilding models, principles and skills, and developing church workers who are more effective and fulfilled in ministry in Pentecostal churches in the Northeastern United States. The project will seek to: 1) clarify the roles of eight chairpersons; 2) form the chairpersons into servant leaders; and 3) mentor each chairperson through the counsel and guidance of others. Two areas of research have inspired the author: the biblical principles of Nehemiah, Jesus, and Paul, and the insights of James Kouzes and Barry Posner, from the secular arena. Sixteen persons selected from the congregation participated in a nine-week leadership-training class. The body of the dissertation is divided into four parts. A literature review that highlights the core issues gleaned from previous research as well as literature pertinent to the subject of discipleship specifically geared to developing leaders is provided. The procedure and research method used is given. A report of the results of the research is provided. Finally, conclusions and research implications are given. The author believes the continuing development of leaders consistent with the discipleship model found in the NT is vital to the life and ministry of Coppell Bible Fellowship, the church that the author planted over ten years ago and remains the pastor of today.
