A caring seminar was developed and conducted in three North American Baptist churches of Alberta, Canada.  Ideas from current caring resources were presented by the leader. Participants explored and evaluated their personal and church caring by means of questionnaires, one on one fellowship, and small group sharing.  They also evaluated the seminar by a feedback form. Groups for lay ministry were projected in the areas of evangelism, pastoral care (elders), and church hospitality (deacons, deaconesses, ushers).  Rigorous training was planned and executed for each of these groups, their function was supervised, and its impact monitored through a period of seven months.  The training encountered a reluctance in the hospitality group.  The implementation experienced a hesitancy in the pastoral care group. Eight parish ministers were trained to train lay persons in pastoral care ministry and in the theory and practice of pastoral supervision.  The ministers then received supervision of their supervision.  This dissertation presents descriptions of the practices of pastoral supervision by these seven ministers. The theology is based on an understanding of the imago Dei, the effects of the fall, and the potential of redemption. The theory is eclectic with three components: 1) relationship draws on Carl Rogers; 2) responsibility draws on Glasser's reality therapy; 3) religious resources draws on several pastoral counselors.  A training manual was developed and tested.
