In order to critically examine this problem attention is first given to the issue of identity formation, the role it plays in the development of human beings and how unhealthy psychological and psychosocial development plays a major role in leading some young people to act out violent or otherwise anti-social behavior(s). Posited here is that Erik Erikson provides a planned theory of behavior that sheds great light on the role of identity formation, prosocial behavior both as an individual and as an individual who is part of a reference group. Racial identity, racial socialization and racial salience must be considered in any approach designed to assist Black American youth relative to the issue of youth crime and violence. Theological and ethical analyses are brought to bear on the problem being examined. The position taken is that the problem of youth violence and crime is, perhaps, best addressed from within a religious/theological framework of meaning. Moreover, that the Black Church and African-American moral tradition provides a model for developing ethical leaders. Such a model can provide a useful framework for working with young people in order to reduce violence, criminal and other anti-social behaviors among them. Walter Earl Fluker has done extensive research in the area of developing ethical leaders from the Black Church and African Americans moral tradition. This work is based on his exhaustive study of Howard Thurman and Martin Luther King, Jr. The model is based on four concepts; agapeic love (the overarching concept), character, civility and community. Based on these concepts a program model with these four foci as the foundational principles is described. The program is designed to work with 8-14 year old inner-city, socio-economically deprived youth. An evaluation of project outcomes follows. A postscript chapter details the potential role of the Black Church and Black clergy in working with these, our most challenged young folk."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799715410794250240,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T01:46:04.115Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T20:44:18Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:18:24Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"ed4fdfbe-180b-4630-88b6-ba6a4d6ec248","accessControl_ssim":["401d1be9-9db8-4c16-a0b2-c4059387ecb9"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Developing a short-term leadership team to implement an Easter outreach society: Virginia Beach, Virginia"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T20:44:17Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T04:54:38Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["0537e4f5-8678-49d2-a458-75ef376b2e8d"],"hasLease_ssim":["55f84253-eb74-413d-93b7-0a09d5297d21"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Southern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Charles E Lawless"],"year_tesim":["2000"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["William H Brooks"],"publisher_tesim":["Southern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Leadership","Church development, New"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The purpose of this ministry research project was to target the unchurched for Christ and develop a leadership base from attender-only congregants of Coastal Community Church using short-term teams. The project explored this thesis by initiating a congregational study focusing on one parish. The research included observations, on-site visits and interviews. A literature review on Celtic spirituality, feminist theology and organizational leadership was completed. Integrative analysis was done and foundational values and components for future leadership models were proposed. Transformational leadership, spiritual renewal, and communication of vision are essential to success in implementing new models of parish leadership. A congregational study was initiated, focusing on one parish as a revealing text. The research included on-site visits and interviews. The wisdom gleaned from the congregational study was then women with a review of literature on Celtic spirituality, feminist theology and organizational leadership. An integrative analysis of the combined research was done; foundational values and components for future leadership models were proposed. The research surfaced many important findings and conclusions. Among these are: 1) they key to leadership is relationship and not skill development, structure or power; 2) in opposition to dualistic, hierarchical world-views, feminist theology and Celtic spirituality stress interconnectedness and inclusivity which are fundamental to the development of future leadership models; 3) both hierarchical and charismatic elements of the Catholic Church must be honored and balanced; 4) intentional processes are needed to enable the transition from hierarchical models of leadership to more inclusive ones, especially processes for and integrating feminist and Celtic values and; 5) the church needs to give priority to including the wealthy, poor, old and young, as well as persons of many cultures and both genders, in the community's circles of relationship and involvement. The study concludes that several steps and strategies are essential to successfully implementing new models and paradigms of leadership. In particular, transformational leadership, spiritual renewal, and processes to communicate the vision across parishes, deaneries and Archdiocesan entities, are essential for gaining commitment from the faith."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Claremont School of Theology"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["e7e2d3cb-fc51-4ba5-a7fd-d43f3f8c150b"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791131971335749632,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:55:58.357Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T20:06:44Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:57:37Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"56506024-8e6c-4b94-82f1-79bd29ccdcc8","accessControl_ssim":["4a43aa79-44bb-4dc1-b159-2a63002118da"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Integrating spiritual gift awareness into leadership training"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T20:06:43Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T00:39:39Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["c0ec2cee-f665-4fbe-816a-1e928ac5bfc0"],"hasLease_ssim":["af56a084-189d-43e6-9a72-21b597a2cc10"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Justice Anderson"],"year_tesim":["2000"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["James P Mantooth"],"publisher_tesim":["Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Leadership","Gifts, Spiritual"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The fourteen-week training program integrated studies on spiritual gifts into leadership training.
