The study used semi-structured interviews with four pastors in the Presbyterian Church in America and two from the Evangelical Presbyterian Church. The review of literature examined scripture, Christian literature and secular literature regarding how leaders lead staff teams. The analysis focused on three areas: how to build trust, what understanding of relational systems are helpful in leading a team, and how personal spiritual growth affects team leadership. The study found that trust is established as the leader practices consistency of character, motivating the team toward a clear vision, developing good communication, mutual accountability, and building an atmosphere of authentic joy. Church staff teams were often strengthened and trust built through difficult situations. The study also found that it is vital for effective leaders to understand relational systems. Finally, the study concluded that spiritual health and vitality are essential for lead pastors to be effective. Effective leaders have consistent and vital times in Bible study and prayer. The leaders interviewed practiced spiritual disciplines on a regular basis."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Covenant Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["e57e5218-1d34-47f5-b1a5-b84efbc9e61f"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791130529596178432,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:33:03.407Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T12:39:09Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:47:57Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"caf866a7-d4bc-4bb2-8d2d-349687e3fbc2","accessControl_ssim":["b53df965-845d-4c46-ae54-ab41016b8568"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Pursuing church revitalization that is tailored to a church's unique personality"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T12:39:08Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T03:58:11Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["5342a7b0-12cd-498a-8fe5-67c7e168aacc"],"hasLease_ssim":["2dbab3e1-a829-43fc-b5e0-a5dcbf0c777d"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Covenant Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Philip D Douglass"],"year_tesim":["2009"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Walton R Kendall"],"publisher_tesim":["Covenant Theological Seminary (St. Louis, MO)"],"subject_tesim":["Leadership--Religious aspects--Christianity","Organizational change","Congregations","Christianity and culture","Presbyterian Church","Church renewal--Reformed Church","Social groups"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The purpose of this study was to explore how a church's unique personality provides strategic insight for leading church revitalizaiton. The study involved semi-structured interviews with pastors and church leaders from four Presbyterian Church in America churches in the eastern United States. The study revealed that diverse strategies of revitalization reflect the unique mix of gifts and resources that each church possesses, both in its leaders and laypeople. Effective renewal plans are not borrowed from models provided by other churches, but are carefully crafted to fit each unique congregation. The study also revealed the importance of communicating a clear rationale and vision for change but also discerning what kind of change the congregation would most readily embrace. Leaders must possess a unitifed commitment to pursue necessary change but also adapt leadership initiatives and style to fit the congregation. Finally, the study revealed that churches more effectively pursue change when they are aware of their church culture and the opportunities and limitations it represents. The recognition of the dynamics of personality can reveal the most effective pathways to ministry fruitfulness as well as provide insight into pathways that should be avoided."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Covenant Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["e57e5218-1d34-47f5-b1a5-b84efbc9e61f"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791131470837841920,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:48:01.044Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T12:37:06Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T22:35:18Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"1045fa7e-40fc-4214-9bad-73b07fc452cf","accessControl_ssim":["764c5c7f-9a2a-4465-948d-35993763a41e"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["LifeChurch.tv: a case study of effective on-site leadership in a global multi-site church movement"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T12:37:05Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T22:35:18Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["7a779ddc-416a-4fcb-a746-ef62ec729d1e"],"hasLease_ssim":["7b4cdf23-70ca-4156-8bc2-159bd99e5cf4"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Bethel Seminary (St. Paul, MN)"],"advisor_tesim":["Justin Irving"],"year_tesim":["2009"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Brian L Kruckenberg"],"keyword_tesim":["Clergy--Performance standards"],"publisher_tesim":["Bethel Seminary (St. Paul, MN)"],"subject_tesim":["Leadership--Religious aspects--Christianity","Multi-site churches","Mass media in religion","Industrial management"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The author addresses the challenges a pastor faces when leading a local church in a multi-site church movement. My quest is to discover if the training works. This project asks the following questions: Does T-net training make an impact on a church's ability to grow numerically through people coming to Christ? Do churches that have gone through T-net training experience an increased number of committed followers of Jesus Christ? Do T-net trained churches experience an increased number of leaders who are competent to lead? Do they have an increased sense of community? Do T-net trained churches have an increased number of members who are committed to Scripture? A thorough study was done in the literature to analyze what constitutes the key components of discipleship. A questionnaire was written to discover the impact T-net training has had on the discipleship in selected churches in the Midwest area. The senior pastors were independently interviewed. The staff, with the exception of the senior pastor was interviewed together. Also, a group of lay leadership from each of the selected churches was interviewed. These results were carefully compiled and analyzed for patterns. The studies proved that those churches that consistently implemented the principles of the T-net training, accomplished the results, though in varying degrees, that are given in this research."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Dallas Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["8322f611-a593-413a-8bcd-0011fba52dc7"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791129951232065536,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:23:51.836Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T12:33:29Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:12:19Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"bdeae6a3-0c6e-49a8-bc3e-cc689a094346","accessControl_ssim":["81e98b7f-ee7a-4935-8276-dd5215b3ab5a"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["A study of a leadership development program for three men in the Concord A.R.P. All participants showed dramatic leadership development during the year they were involved in the program."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791129228747472896,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:12:22.821Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T12:31:59Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T02:46:37Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"33403ad3-3bc1-43b0-bfb6-493d2340f45e","accessControl_ssim":["deecd8e1-09f9-4444-8db9-f9fca6a82d27"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Plural elder leadership in a Southern Baptist church"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T12:31:59Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T23:37:24Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["6a1b8226-88cd-48d6-a100-4a7bc51df5b1"],"hasLease_ssim":["8927169e-308b-4aa7-88f7-5f33ab7ad02f"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Reformed Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["S Donald Fortson"],"year_tesim":["2005"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Fred G Stone"],"keyword_tesim":["Southern Baptist Convention--Government"],"publisher_tesim":["Reformed Theological Seminary, Charlotte campus"],"subject_tesim":["Leadership--Religious aspects--Christianity","Elders (Church officers)","Southern Baptist Convention"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This project demonstrates that plural elder leadership was the consistent New Testament model of local church leadership. In his book Good to Great, Jim Collins observes how effective leaders demonstrate a paradoxical blend of professional will and personal humility. This same paradox is reflected in Jesus' grace-giving, truth-telling leadership. He perfectly modeled how to relate to people redemptively while not compromising in matters of truth and righteousness. This project details a process for enhancing leadership effectiveness by cultivating self-awareness among church leaders in regard to professional will and personal humility. A survey of literature and scripture is included, as well as tools for cultivating effective interpersonal leadership behavior."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Trinity Evangelical Divinity School"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["c654e922-76d0-4427-ac29-e286b7997781"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799715789857619968,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T01:52:05.618Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T12:29:33Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T02:45:33Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"306b97e7-dcb9-43ac-885d-588465afaca6","accessControl_ssim":["8d99d7ee-dc84-49d4-84d4-1b1aa41a26a0"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Leadership development following misconduct in a mid-sized PC (USA) congregation in southwest Florida"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T12:29:32Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T23:32:33Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["33780e25-cabe-443f-b61b-d5d0057b41a1"],"hasLease_ssim":["03681ed5-e012-4793-bd0a-25ebd5c0f246"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Trinity Episcopal School for Ministry (Ambridge, PA)"],"advisor_tesim":["Erika Moore"],"year_tesim":["2009"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Clinton Clifford Cottrell"],"publisher_tesim":["Trinity Episcopal School for Ministry"],"subject_tesim":["Leadership--Religious aspects--Christianity","Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.)"],"language_tesim":["English"],"alternative_title_tesim":["Leadership development following misconduct in a mid-sized Presbyterian Church (USA) congregation in southwest Florida"],"abstract_tesim":["The subject dissertation evaluates a methodology for initiating the redevelopment of a leadership team (comprised of the elders and the staff) in a mid-sized Presbyterian Church (USA) congregation in southwest Florida following a series of breaches in ethical conduct.
