If you are a youth pastor, this equipping certainly involves recruiting volunteer leaders.  The goal of this project was to train three youth pastors in recruiting volunteer youth leaders using a four-phase strategy involving prayer, effective leadership team, worship service vision casting, and personal contacting. The pastoral epistles of 1-2 Timothy represent a look into what leadership ministry should look like.  This is a specific church situation with actual directions of what is to be done there, and it directly confronts many of the models used today.  This project is an examination of the Timothy material and a survey of a specific denomination as to how that material is seen and used. Ministers in the field and deans of Bible colleges and seminaries were asked to evaluate Paul's instructions to Timothy in their own sphere of ministry. It needs leaders who recognize God's calling and can effectively implement that calling in today's church.  This project presents a practical elder leadership model developed and implemented by Olathe Bible Church in shepherding its congregation.  The model was derived from biblical investigation and case studies of large, multi-staff, elder-led churches.  The scriptural findings and case research were applied to create a relevant, practical, visual model of shepherding leadership for use in elder-led churches. The project goal is renewed zeal in church leaders to be involved in ministry. Project activities attempt to change attitudes and behaviors in the deacon body. Deacons will participate in joint ministry with a growing church in a similar ministry context. Deacons will assess the church's present ministry in a one-day retreat. Deacons' attitudes will be challenged through a survey of unchurched nonbelievers in the community. Deacons will examine biblical ministry mandates in a ten-week seminar. In the final two meetings, deacons will formulate plans for involving other church members in ministry, reflecting their changed attitudes and behavior in ministry. Further, an attempt is made to define the paradigm in which the church is seeking to thrive as neo-apostolic. Two areas of research have inspired the author: the biblical principles of Nehemiah, Jesus, and Paul, and the insights of James Kouzes and Barry Posner, from the secular arena. Sixteen persons selected from the congregation participated in a nine-week leadership-training class. The author contends that Paul's collaborative style can be a positive factor in promoting church revitalization.  A declining-membership suburban mainline-denomination congregation served as a case study for collaborative leadership in ministry.  The author, who was the pastor, served as a role model of a collaborative leader for co-workers who were in key lay leadership positions. With effective leadership any human institution or organization can flourish and grow in the ways that organization deems important.  Without effective leadership, organizations falter and decline, failing to accomplish their expected or hoped-for outcomes.  This thesis will examine the leadership of the United Methodist Church from John Wesley and Francis Asbury to the present.  The church's leadership applied in the past and in the present will be compared with the literature and theory of leadership in both business and church genres to assess the current state of the church.  The conclusion will be a number of suggestions for ways to assure effective leadership in the church at all levels.
