The kingdom offers an alternative paradigm in contrast to established evangelical forms grounded in human wisdom and understanding. Through biblical paradigms and statistical research, the author describes the condition of early 21st-century American Christianity. Through the use of systems thinking and cultural diagnosis he defines what he terms the 'seven deadly D's' of American church life. The kingdom of God is presented as the only theological systemic approach to remedy these maladies. This work is unique in its pastoral perspective, narrative style, and cognitive processing. Understanding the kingdom and learning to live and lead within a kingdom framework will equip many evangelical pastors, leaders, and laypeople to progress from personal burnout toward a more hopeful position. The significance of this work is in recovering the kingdom of God as the necessary biblical corrective to modern evangelical leadership formation and church practice. This includes implications for the rethinking of evangelicalism, a new approach to theology, and the formation of multidimensional leadership. This will assist 21st-century Christian leaders in dealing with complexity, diversity, changing spiritual paradigms, and interdenominational unity. It offers hope as new fuel and a kingdom model as a cognitive construct as well as recommendations for application."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791129752786960384,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:20:42.584Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T10:28:51Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:12:15Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"f9d354c5-7853-4bbc-9409-27a91aa0b5c1","accessControl_ssim":["00da65eb-a5ca-4c5c-802a-0b196d0ef3ee"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Distinctively Christian leadership: impacting the marketplace for the cause of Christ"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T10:28:50Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T05:15:52Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["007b7a5c-49d4-43ac-b953-c341cff67f39"],"hasLease_ssim":["27d5a1f0-4382-4d47-b723-7b4ba4f5ea60"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Haddon W Robinson"],"year_tesim":["2005"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Keith D Boyd"],"publisher_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Leadership--Religious aspects--Christianity","Vocation","Work--Religious aspects--Christianity"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The overarching premise of this project is that most Christians do not make the connection between what they do/who they are on Sunday with what they do/who they are during the workweek. Thus there is need for a tool that will enable Christ-followers who are not occupational ministers to come to understand that they are, indeed, vocational ministers; that God has called each person to and gifted each person for a distinct ministry -- be it in the home or the local church or the marketplace or all the above. The secondary premise of this project is that leadership is, above all, influence. It is the ability to inspire and stimulate others to follow. With that in mind, it is incumbent upon all Christ-followers to 'lead' others to the Savior and to the truths of the Kingdom of God. Thus, the process-curriculum developed in this project will raise various issues of leadership that are essential for the Christ-follower to grapple with if he or she is going to make an impact for the cause of Christ in the marketplace. Of particular concern is the training of Christ-followers to think critically, both of the calling God has placed on their lives and how that must be fleshed out in the context of their day-to-day living. All too often, Christ-followers see their 'nine to five' either as a place simply to earn a paycheck or to achieve some degree of status and success, not a place wherein they experience the abundant life Jesus came to give us and lead others toward the same. The thesis begins with the assertion that the marketplace is primed for and, at least to some degree, receptive to spiritual things, and the Christ-follower must be prepared to 'make the most of every opportunity' (Eph. 5:16; Col. 4:5). To lay a foundation for this preparation, the thesis then goes on to present an overview of a theology of work and the misconceptions that many Christ-followers have of work and the workplace. By establishing that by and large Christendom has missed the message of the scriptures with regard to work, the need for distinctively Christian leadership in the marketplace will be recognized. Distinctively Christian leadership includes much of the current wisdom in the arena of leadership development, which will be reviewed, but it raises the bar to show that competencies are not the most important things. More important are the elements of calling and character. Thus, this project will explore the elements of calling and character for the distinctively Christian leader, making the case that calling connects a person's work to God's agenda and that character makes a difference in his/her effectiveness on the job as well as his/her attractiveness to and impact on others. The end goal of the project is to develop a process-curriculum that effectively mobilizes Christ-followers to make an impact for his kingdom in the most influential arena of our world -- the marketplace."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791132999492829184,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:12:18.883Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T10:28:50Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:37:35Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"4e5506f1-144a-4a8e-851f-f6b840e42253","accessControl_ssim":["69524190-b392-48dd-b6f9-33fd83844fbb"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Excellence in leadership: a training program for Latin American indigenous mission leaders"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T10:28:49Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T00:26:08Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["1c03050a-5ceb-4f46-8863-7b1487a5a0fc"],"hasLease_ssim":["89428d5f-8d9f-45a4-b8b0-d1d981069b37"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Kenneth L Swetland"],"year_tesim":["2005"],"location_tesim":["Latin America"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Edward T Bradley"],"publisher_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Leadership--Religious aspects--Christianity","Christians","Missions"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This work focuses on the development of a leadership training program for directors of faith-based ministries in Latin America. The research focused on studying adolescent development, leadership, learning styles, and curricular design through analyzing four curricula currently in use with adolescents. The research was evaluative in nature. Data were collected through sixty-minute phone interviews and by developing an evaluative grid from literary research. The grid provided a consistent process to analyze the curricula. Leadership with adolescents is either strongly emphasized or ignored in the evangelical Christian church. Teens are seen as a resource and should be placed in positions to make an impact today, according to the collected data. A strong philosophical base of adolescent development theory, leadership theory, or learning styles theory did not exist in the models. It is written out of these convictions: the church is called to equip its leadership; women need training specifically designed for them; and leadership skills can and should be taught to help the church fulfill its mandates. The thesis of this work is that short-term leadership training for women will increase their effectiveness and their sense of adequacy in leadership roles. This project provides a tested curriculum series of four parts to help the local church prepare women for spiritual leadership. It is designed so that each part may be taught separately or as a series in order to train women in specific skill areas for Bible study leadership or for administrative leadership, particularly in the context of a women's ministry. This material has been used at Northwest Bible Church in Dallas, Texas, where the writer is Minister to Women. However, it is designed for use in any local church to provide equipping for women as leaders, especially in the context of ministry to other women."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791131089920589824,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:41:57.774Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T10:24:17Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:31:47Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"34ccb3db-9b37-4da7-a699-7748cc606061","accessControl_ssim":["88801b6b-d2d9-4776-85f6-3c7abe83d036"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The relationship between transformational leadership and church growth in the Korean immigrant church"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T10:24:16Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T23:39:35Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["af8b0b4b-747f-4b41-8724-d6ed4d66333c"],"hasLease_ssim":["0c693498-ac43-436b-a704-817e56002bf2"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Steven W Klipowicz"],"year_tesim":["2005"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Seoung Kook Kim"],"publisher_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Leadership--Religious aspects--Christianity","Organizational change","Chang, Joseph Young Choon","Korean American Presbyterian Church of Queens (Flushing, NY)","Church work with immigrants"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This dissertation examines the relationship between transformational leadership and church growth in immigrant churches. More specifically, the researcher studied the leadership of Rev. Young Choon Chang, the senior pastor of the Korean American Presbyterian Church of Queens (KAPCQ) and the impact of his leadership on the growth of KAPCQ. This research employed qualitative study methods with information obtained through interviews, surveys, documents, and observations. The results of this research are stated below. First, we know that in the late 20th century a fresh wave of leaders transformed nations and organizations with a style of leadership that recent leadership research has defined as transformational leadership. This newly defined leadership model promises to change the very essence of organizations that under inefficient leadership had not looked beyond the status quo. Second, although the term 'transformational leadership' was coined by James MacGregor Burns in 1978, the researcher found that the idea of transformational leadership originated in the concept of man's creation in the image of God and the creation mandate in the Bible. Third, biblical transformational leadership is characterized by a leader with a servant heart and God-sized vision, who fulfills that vision through the power of the Word and Spirit, thereby bringing change to the church."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791130452808957952,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:31:50.177Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T10:23:55Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:04:14Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"cf919e64-7bdb-4cbd-b183-f4812d50d8c4","accessControl_ssim":["07e8f476-9e68-4a6b-8edc-0872cc208991"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Multi-frame leadership with South Carolina Evangelical Lutheran Church in America clergy: a descriptive study"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T10:23:54Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T04:04:41Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["9642989b-3a16-44ba-a957-c8a71bd058e9"],"hasLease_ssim":["c1a0a3fe-88b9-4fb2-bbef-aa0a4b3d21ef"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Steven W Klipowicz"],"year_tesim":["2005"],"location_tesim":["South Carolina"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Tony A Metze"],"keyword_tesim":["Religious surveys"],"publisher_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Leadership--Religious aspects--Christianity","Evangelical Lutheran Church in America"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This study sought to test, research, provide feedback and describe the level of multi-frame leadership within the ELCA clergy in South Carolina.
