Three components form the core of the integrated strategy for this project: personally reflective (incarnational), scriptural (revelational), and a prayerful (relational) approach. Although progress has been noted concerning ethnic and racial relationships among America's citizenship, it is also clear that our nation must continue to move forward in breaking down ethnic and racial barriers that still divide. This dissertation proposes that the solution to what still separates one racial or ethnic group from another begins in the multiethnic church through transformational leadership. The multiethnic church or many diverse people, influence, motivated, stimulated and considerate of God's design for humankind, assists in moving the church and ultimately our nation to become the answer to our Lord's prayer in John 17:11: 'Father, make them one as you and I are one.'"],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791132368854056960,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:02:17.460Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T14:59:59Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:29:36Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"29b10eb5-710d-4d8f-87ac-819f6ee99e73","accessControl_ssim":["31bcaf2a-7da9-4156-8916-8bf7d377754b"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The long haul: the story of successful church transformation in a New England mainline denominational setting and what your church can learn from it"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T14:59:58Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T23:21:20Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["ffda3f12-019e-46ec-808c-3e1137ed8661"],"hasLease_ssim":["7aee65d1-af9e-42a7-a29d-21596ccae6e6"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Raymond F Pendleton"],"year_tesim":["2009"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Kevin B Crispell"],"publisher_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Leadership--Religious aspects--Christianity","Mission statements","Church polity","Planning","Change--Religious aspects","Church renewal--Protestant churches"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["There is a surprising dearth of literature on the actual mechanics or micro scale of church renewal and transformation. How does one go about changing one's church's bylaws, name, polity, mission statement -- even denominational affiliation? When and where does one even start? Set in New England, a region renowned for resistance to change, this is the story of one church's successful transformation from a mainline denominational affiliation to a newly formed association of conservative churches. The author found it necessary to be willing to stay in his current pastorate for an extended period of time if he was to bring about the necessary changes. This thesis-project shows how changes were made to the session of a PC(USA) congregation to attempt to improve effectiveness, and a policy manual growing from that experience was disseminated to other church leaders for their opinions. The researcher presents a theological motivation for churches to pursue changes in the leadership structure of the session. After examining modern and postmodern paradigms, the writer asserts that accommodations to the modern paradigm do not meet the demands and expectations of ministry in a postmodern context. The writer then proposes missional values and structures to enhance the effectiveness of the local church in the postmodern context. A detailed case study shows that these structural changes increased the effectiveness of a local church's ministry, increased the satisfaction of its leaders, fit PC(USA) polity, and could be applied with profit in other church situations."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791131917135904768,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:55:06.668Z","score":1.0}],"facets":[{"name":"resource_type_sim","items":[{"value":"Unknown","hits":781,"label":"Unknown"},{"value":"D.Min.
