The participants evaluated and deepened their understanding of worship and intentionality through group sessions and the use of workbooks. They also wrote, implemented and evaluated weekly action plans to give opportunity to practice intentionality in leading worship. Finally, participants were asked to commit themselves to continued intentionality in their worship leadership role. To achieve the goals for this project, the project director utilized an equipping module. The first phase of the project involved researching many different resources in the field of small groups and small group leadership skills. The project director utilized these resources to produce the lessons used to equip the selected group. The second phase was to develop a seminar, including lesson plans and a student workbook. The final phase of the project involved implementing the seminar for the initial training of the selected group. The seminar consisted of an introduction session, four lessons, a conclusion session and an implementation discussion. The seminar was conducted on four Sunday afternoons. All participants showed growth in all specified areas in their final assessment of the mentoring program. The project director identified five leadership skills, five communication skills and five spiritual formation qualities necessary for ministry excellence. This report reflects the process of developing a team of missional leaders who commit themselves to lead the church to become missional. Leaders who participated in a thirteen-week small group used the Renovation of the heart curriculum by Dallas Willard. The participants completed pre and post-assessment surveys to ascertain whether the small group impacted the leaders and whether the goals of the project were met. The desire to do this research comes from the biblical mandate given by the Lord Jesus Christ to make disciples (Matt 28:19-20). Developing God's people into leaders who demonstrate Christ-like character is not only the greatest need in the world today, but also in today's church; therefore, developing competent spiritual leadership through discipleship must be its top priority. The following questions are answered: What can churches do to prepare men and women to develop into godly leaders? What can Waukegan Community Church do to become a disciple-making reproducing church? Will Discipleship for leadership make a significant contribution in helping Waukegan Community Church become a disciple-making, leader-developing church?
