It is this author's conviction that it is time for the church to claim the theological premise that crafting eucharistic practices of friendship across cultures provides a vision of faith that will address racial divisiveness and build bridges of reconcilitation in society. The author wrote a workbook that served as an instrument to facilitate daily reflection upon ways the Eucharist inspires practices of friendship across ethnicity and social class. The author conducted an eight-week project which included multi-cultural worship, sharing of stories in small groups, and participation in Eucharist. Evaluation of the project included the use of surveys and interviews. The author concludes that this approach to multi-cultural ministry facilitated reflection upon Eucharist and helped participants learn more about the importance of forming friendships with Christians of diverse ethnicity and economic class based upon practices of holy communion that shape the formation of Christ-like friendships."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["5a6e4a36-5801-4bff-8e61-86d7489efb4a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799718444648628224,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T02:34:17.424Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T07:13:03Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:13:58Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"8a036594-4c66-40cb-8c8e-3c01aa012d89","accessControl_ssim":["38ab7856-7dcf-46d1-94c0-16eddf9ec85a"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The eucharistic liturgy as a school of spiritual formation"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T07:13:03Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:11:11Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["6a174a08-ccb9-49c8-93fa-7dc6d0246150"],"hasLease_ssim":["5c5b0e05-a093-4a5c-89bd-d9b9010cbd92"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Catholic Theological Union"],"advisor_tesim":["Mary Frohlich"],"year_tesim":["2002"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Martin J Barnum"],"publisher_tesim":["Catholic Theological Union"],"subject_tesim":["Catholic Church","Sacred Heart School of Theology","Spiritual formation","Lord's Supper","Whitehead, James D","Whitehead, Evelyn Eaton","Liturgics"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This thesis-project asserts a direct relationship between the Eucharistic Liturgy of the Roman Catholic Church and a program of seminary spiritual formation. This study defines and discusses individualism at the family meal table and the 'Lord's Table.' I then discuss these findings in the light of the Gospels, First Corinthians 11, and John Calvin's writings to gain theological/historical perspective. The results show that after using the resource for study and worship the participants celebrated Holy Communion with a new appreciation and understanding."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["United Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["f0f9c284-37b6-440c-96ab-39e6509e82ee"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791128996470063104,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:08:41.304Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T03:58:29Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T06:31:46Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"9181ef06-2543-492a-b260-d76f371c825e","accessControl_ssim":["f2c285e7-af06-4de1-a4a4-a7cdfebe890b"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The eucharist: center of the church's worship and life"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T03:58:28Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:23:32Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["4617b543-9d79-4225-a476-14ba354546ff"],"hasLease_ssim":["306cbcc9-e8f8-4f70-ad46-f755b1a8c3cc"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Concordia Seminary (Saint Louis, MO)"],"advisor_tesim":["James L Brauer"],"year_tesim":["1994"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["David H Stohlmann"],"publisher_tesim":["Concordia Seminary (MO)"],"subject_tesim":["Lutheran Church","Lord's Supper"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The author developed a seminar of four modules which provided assistance for pastors and worship committees in the practice of Lutheran liturgical worship centered in word and sacrament and its effect on daily living. Major divisions in the church have altered liturgical practices, especially the ritual observance of the sacraments of baptism and Eucharist. Early Christian worship reflected in the gospel of Luke and the Book of Acts reveals the religious experiences of the church in the last third of the first century. To the extent that they can be recovered, this project reveals how the sacramental practices of baptism and Eucharist were formative in the Luke/Acts community, how they evolved through twenty centuries of Christianity, and how they present a paradigm for modern Christian worship. This project addresses these issues through library research into the nature of Christian origins, ritual theory, and early Christian worship, coupled with reflections upon experiences in pastoral ministry within the United Methodist Church."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Claremont School of Theology"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["e7e2d3cb-fc51-4ba5-a7fd-d43f3f8c150b"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791132258624602112,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:00:32.337Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T03:46:27Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:47:53Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"7035fab1-565f-4e24-ba3b-2ce8bea6a3ce","accessControl_ssim":["a0b060bc-3f7d-4a10-92ea-b3015ae84480"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The development of homebound communion ministry in First Baptist Church of Independence, Missouri"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T03:46:26Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T01:25:12Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["407b22db-d3a6-4dd3-a370-65c0eba968fa"],"hasLease_ssim":["667f2508-bb7e-459e-aaec-a441fa85fb48"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Dan Rainbolt"],"year_tesim":["1994"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Carole G Hughes"],"publisher_tesim":["Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Church work with the sick","Lord's Supper","Church work","Visitations (Church work)","Church work with the home-bound"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Homebound Christians often feel 'disconnected' or abandoned/forgotten by the church and need a homebound Communion ministry to symbolize the offering of congregational 'community' both with God and the body of faith.
