Exegetical study of Genesis 2:18-25 and Ephesians 5:21-33 concluded that God's intent for marriage was an intimate mutual community. An object relations theory study of marriage revealed that the primary human need to be loved and validated motivates marital interaction. The systems approach provided a significant shift in perception about the congregation, which enabled the pastor to bring positive action to a very difficult situation. It was concluded that theologies (whether Seventh-Day Adventist or Roman Catholic), married respondents' experiences and opinions, and Bowen Theory concepts all point to premarital counseling as an important forum in which engaged couples can prepare for their married life
