A brief comprehension of AAP-A clergy couples' uniqueness is presented. Spiritual formation, conservatism, and expressive love are matters of concern for AAP-A clergy couples facing marital anxiety. The biblical theme of expressive love is the framework for understanding the personhood in need and key to marital health. Family systems theories support biblical principles to formulate a counseling approach that elucidates expressive love. This study began with a survey of biblical and professional literature that examined the divine paradigm for marriage, the stressors associated with ministry, and critical steps couples took to create a more amicable, enduring relationship. Next, the project gleaned information from a survey distributed to couples who have been married for at least thirty years and have served in the pastorate. The project director compiled, synthesized, and reported the results. The conclusions drawn affirm that God's marital construct can and will endure the stressors of ministry when couples apply biblical principles. This report is intended to bring encouragement to pastoral couples who are fighting the good fight. This study hypothesized that a biblically oriented marriage enrichment course concerning relationship self-regulation (RSR) would increase both personal responsibility for marriage and marital satisfaction in marriage and that RSR, as a measure of personal responsibility, would positively correlate with marital satisfaction (MS). Forty-three couples were assessed on their relationship self-regulation and marital satisfaction, pre and post course. This author was invited to speak at the inaugural pastor's conference hosted by the International Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention. The need for a biblical pre-marital and marriage counseling manual that will equip Protestant ministers to assist people in building their marriages on the foundation of God's word was discovered through formal and informal discussions with indigenous ministers. The manual emphasizes the truth that marriage is God's creation and not solely man's institution, as propogated by the Soviet regime. Therefore the Bible is the source for identifying the purpose as well as understanding the principles for marriage. Chapters include the following teachings: the authority and sufficiency of scripture for biblical counseling, building a biblical foundation for marriage, pre-marital counseling, divorce and remarriage, and counseling for major marriage problems. During the first phase of this project, research was conducted to provide content for a workshop to train selected deacons in basic marriage counseling skills and healthy relationships. The second phase included development of the workshop training curriculum and enlistment of selected deacons. The third phase of this project was the implementation phase where the project director presented the curriculum during seven training sessions. Teaching methodologies included lecture, group discussions, participant interaction, and visual illustrations. First, the project examines issues faced by national Guard Chemical soldiers with regard to family reintegration. Second, the project examines Army training doctrine in order to address the reintegration issues. The end goal of the project was to develop a marriage training program that takes place during a retreat format. The retreat would include many of the elements discovered during the research phase. To better understand attitudes about cohabitation, selected young adults were invited into a dialogue. Storytelling, brief counseling, biblical topics, and social interaction were coordinated to encourage group participation and self-learning. At the conclusion of the study, cohabitating couples revealed their decisions to marry or not to marry.
