Protestant pastors seemingly have neither given attention to nor engaged in theological discussion concerning what impact such radically differing images may have.Research was conducted using a literature survey along with a survey of commercially available images of Jesus. An over-arching historical survey was provided of how art and theology influenced each other beginning with Old Testament prohibitions against the fabrication of images to the wealth of Jesus images available in 2010. Based on the research it was concluded that the image of Jesus and how he is portrayed does have an impact on how an individual understands the person and work of Jesus.A paradigm was developed that enables a pastor to analyze popular visual images of Jesus circulating in the United States and to analyze their theological significance so that they can be more intentional about their own use of images of Jesus and more aware of the ways an individual's Christology may be influenced by the broader visual cultural environment. The model also serves as an excellent teaching tool to help a congregant understand the Christological implications of various images of Jesus."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"identifier_tesim":["https://www.proquest.com/dissertations-theses/how-christologies-may-be-shaped-broader-visual/docview/742415031/se-2"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Lancaster Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["77231467-10ce-4737-858a-8cc38e70a4f9"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1851873244233072640,"timestamp":"2025-12-18T18:52:30.265Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T20:04:11Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2025-12-18T18:52:32Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"3952bc4f-23f8-4015-867f-21bd29960592","accessControl_ssim":["73e2ee6a-fdad-4106-9af1-ed65584d28e2"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["'Is it a savior?' : finding salvation in Aquaman, Wonder Woman and Batman"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T20:04:10Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2025-12-18T18:46:47Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["9930163e-cdb6-4d5d-b811-07a1c7d60176"],"hasLease_ssim":["9d3a977a-ba45-4165-98d8-2d60e8a03af8"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["DMin"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Lancaster Theological Seminary"],"year_tesim":["2020"],"video_embed_tesim":[""],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. I analyze how the films' main characters embody the role of savior and what their narratives might contribute to the Presbyterian understanding of salvation. I am not simply looking at where or how pop culture uses theological or Biblical parallels, but instead asking what these characters contribute to the broader conversation about salvation. The paper asks three questions of each film: what in the film's world needs saving; what about these superheroes or their actions make them a savior; and what, if anything, is changed within that fictional world, as a result of their actions? In asking these questions, we explore how an understanding of salvation emerges from within the film and later compare that to the Presbyterian Church (USA)'s teaching on Jesus as Savior."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"identifier_tesim":["http://archive.lancasterseminary.edu/items/show/790"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Lancaster Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["77231467-10ce-4737-858a-8cc38e70a4f9"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1851873247596904448,"timestamp":"2025-12-18T18:52:33.473Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:55:45Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:29:25Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"51bca1f5-05d9-4cae-a122-23cf77107092","accessControl_ssim":["11ced69e-636a-4893-8a58-f5b0a20995d0"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The Implementation And Impact Of A Hybrid Church Model At Brookridge Baptist Church During A Global Pandemic"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:55:44Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T00:31:44Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["a180a8f8-cf27-4490-896d-bd78e7d9da4e"],"hasLease_ssim":["8fcb57b3-98ff-4fcc-893c-335167fe353a"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Dallas Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Craig Schill D.Min.","John C. In the days and weeks to follow, almost every sector of life around the world was impacted as the virus became a global pandemic, and unprecedented restrictions were enacted for public safety. Businesses and schools were closed; sporting events were cancelled; gatherings were restricted; and face coverings were mandated. Overnight, churches were forced to adapt and embrace various digital media platforms to create an online presence and develop new strategies to minister to their congregations. This research project examined the implementation of a hybrid (in-person and online) church ministry model at Brookridge Baptist Church in Plover, WI using two descriptive surveys. The study sought to discover if the hybrid church model could help meet spiritual needs and facilitate personal church involvement during both a period of restricted gatherings and the ensuing phases of the COVID-19 crisis, as well as a part of the regular ministry of the church going forward. Two descriptive surveys were administered during two different points in time during the pandemic formed the basis of the research. The first survey was given in April 2020 during a time of state-mandated restricted gatherings, and a second in December 2021 while the pandemic continued in its variant forms."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Dallas Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["8322f611-a593-413a-8bcd-0011fba52dc7"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791130303768559616,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:29:28.041Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:55:17Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:36:13Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"a53df9ae-c76b-4b5b-9e28-9342f50b6a0b","accessControl_ssim":["9d0cec21-0d86-48ca-8475-1a054096173b"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Factors That Influence The Transition Of Online Viewers To Physically Gathered Members"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:55:16Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:55:44Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["5a56a11c-6ecf-49f4-a894-8e185bdc2d9d"],"hasLease_ssim":["e5f006f4-e3d8-4c52-941a-3bc82f41d5b2"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Dallas Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["John Dyer Ph.D.","Craig Schill D.Min."],"year_tesim":["2022"],"resource_type_tesim":["Dissertation"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Fix, Jarrett"],"subject_tesim":["Commitment to the church","Mass media in religion","Church work","Christian life"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Churches are currently facing a new set of challenges with the emergence of online expressions of church and the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic. This thesis project aims to equip the laity with the skills and tools to evangelize inactive Catholics and the unaffiliated. It will involve growing in prayer, study, generosity, evangelization, and the discernment of their charisms. With the benefit of social media engagement like Facebook live stream, an opportunity to engage and evangelize is available for our rural parish community. The resources from experienced lay evangelists in evangelization and social media engagement will provide a template that can enhance the development of a program on evangelization for my rural parish community. To test the effectiveness of these resources, seventeen participants engaged in a nine-week program to learn how prayer, study, generosity, evangelization, the discernment of their charisms, and teamwork can prepare them for evangelization. This thesis engaged the inactive Catholics and the unaffiliated in rural Southeast Missouri by using Facebook live stream as an evangelization tool. The focus of this project is thus reminding active Catholics of their responsibility to evangelize and how utilizing a familiar social media portal like Facebook can enhance the process even in a rural community."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Aquinas Institute of Theology"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["416f1c5f-a1c7-4596-b214-83b6abadee9c"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791130334394318848,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:29:57.248Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:28:30Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T06:59:35Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"a4f97c5d-0067-4d7b-b5bf-28174430e9bf","accessControl_ssim":["c7355b7f-a39b-4d16-a7a6-8ae0b1e67cc0"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The Hippie Theologian: Finding Religious Meaning on Social Media"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:28:29Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:55:19Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["916065b8-5c49-4717-986d-4eebc4439f50"],"hasLease_ssim":["92a4e44f-b3d1-4be3-a085-8c3261d2021b"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Trinity Episcopal School for Ministry (Ambridge, PA)"],"advisor_tesim":["Leslie Thyberg Ph.D."],"year_tesim":["2021"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. This work is about how people can find religious meaning on social media by placing people on equal footing in such a way that a genuine dialogue is able to take place. This dialogue enhances the mission of the church insofar as it helps participants gain confidence in contributing to the broader project of public theology, and thereby be encouraged to go out and make disciples of all nations, as it states in Matthew 28:19. To reveal the extent of religious meaning people found on social media, surveys of followers of a Facebook page called The Hippie Theologian were conducted in two sample categories of individual participants and group participants within the Facebook page. This project initially started before the COVID-19 pandemic, but was mostly carried out during the pandemic when many churches either shut down in-person services, or operated at low-capacites, thereby prompting the use of social media for the broadcasting of worship services."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791128427330273280,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T06:59:38.530Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:18:22Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T03:28:26Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"eeee1d2a-ce8d-46b7-ac6b-fd01efc99425","accessControl_ssim":["03cb8731-52ee-4b76-8a06-80ffced818eb"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Developing And Evaluating A Biblical Parenting Resource In Media Ministry"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:18:21Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T04:57:17Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["a45521e8-7ddf-49d3-a92e-dbd90482d718"],"hasLease_ssim":["8f7bab74-ed74-455a-98d4-dbaea10f5990"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"discipline_tesim":["Pastoral ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Trinity Evangelical Divinity School"],"advisor_tesim":["Robert Keeley Ph.D.","William Donahue Ph.D.","Steven Roy Ph.D."],"year_tesim":["2021"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. This study articulated a theoretical foundation of a biblical theology and review of pastoral practices on children and parenting, published a resource on biblical parenting for distribution through the Internet, and then asked the audience for feedback. The resource was rooted in a study of how the Bible regards both children and the task of parenting. The study also explored models of faith formation, pastoral parenting best practices, and a review of the religious landscape of contemporary youth. A 93-page electronic booklet (PDF) called “A Handbook of Biblical Parenting” was developed and shared with over a thousand people online, who were then invited via email to complete an online questionnaire. The response rate was less than 2%, yet the audience was demographically in line with the expected audience. Most respondents were actively parenting young children, expressed an improvement in their parenting confidence, and found the resource practical, using its ideas several times. Most considered faith important to their parenting and found the resource to be encouraging, biblical, and educational. Most consumed the PDF deeply, even though most used a handheld mobile device. A repeated use of this prototype process would require a greater response rate to be consistently useful. Formatting for a small screen would be wise. The questions would require adaptation for other topics. Alternatively, a shorter version of the questionnaire could focus the inquiry more directly on gathering actionable information."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Trinity Evangelical Divinity School"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["c654e922-76d0-4427-ac29-e286b7997781"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799721852499656704,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T03:28:27.404Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T18:24:25Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:24:29Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"804ae999-db42-4c8e-8193-eb273d8c5b84","accessControl_ssim":["45ea31e0-d590-492e-8eb8-3c4239e37ddf"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Using Social Media Effectively in Minstry"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T18:24:24Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T01:55:15Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["6d4b3057-61f8-4821-bbad-990c06075561"],"hasLease_ssim":["e444a879-0aeb-4154-9804-d582c9eefc1a"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"discipline_tesim":["Leadership in Preaching and Pastoral Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Denver Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Fred Creason Ph.D."],"year_tesim":["2019"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. The researcher taught participants to introduce focus into their use of social media by applying the wisdom of Proverbs and making a correlation to social media. Participants helped form a set of guidelines to focus and inform their online behavior. Comments from participants were studied by the researcher and qualitative analysis was conducted in order to see if participants were affected in a positive way. The research demonstrates participants were affected in a positive way. Social media, such as Facebook, Twitter, etc has established a firm place in church life. According to a study conducted by the Barna group, Facebook usage by people in churches has jumped from just over half (57%) to a full seven in tne in the past two years."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Denver Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["e7af129f-938f-4821-9463-dc6ded35d563"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791133768647442432,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:24:32.407Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T15:52:11Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T02:45:40Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"851a4d3b-b640-45ef-bde9-c0ddfa2c7db7","accessControl_ssim":["2557f726-e7d9-4a27-ab6d-90110adcc43e"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["A social media strategy to engage the unreached and unengaged people groups of the Arabian Peninsula and Levant Cluster of the North Africa and Middle East Affinity Group"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T15:52:08Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:03:18Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["2217006c-1fe3-455a-8464-5dc75b0d4a4f"],"hasLease_ssim":["4baf2add-9a18-4233-9685-67a182ee1dc3"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Philip A Pinckard"],"year_tesim":["2013"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Ty P Grisham"],"publisher_tesim":["New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Internet--Religious aspects--Christianity","Southern Baptist Convention--International Mission Board","Missions","Mass media in religion","Social media"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The purpose of this project was to develop a social media strategy to engage the unreached and unengaged people groups of the Arabian Peninsula and Levant Cluster of the North Africa and Middle East Affinity Group of the International Mission Board. The project director explored the area of social media in order to discover the best approaches to engage unreached people groups through social media. Two professional goals assisted the project director to create the social media strategy. First, the project directer increased his knowledge of the unreached and unengaged peoples in the cluster. Second, the project director increased his social media technology skills. A small group of missionaries from the Arabian Peninsula \u0026 Levant Cluster gave assistance to the project director in formulating the strategy. The project director then presented the strategy to the Cluster Strategy Leader.
