In many local churches the concept of lay ministry does not include participation in the area of evangelism.  It is the author's belief that the ministry of evangelism is best achieved when a local church's outreach is shared by laypersons and pastors.  The main objectives of this project are to develop and lead a workshop which will enable church members to participate in the evangelistic ministry of the local church. East Ohio Conference"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["A factorial survey approach showed that latent racial, ethnic, and gender biases thwart implementation of a commitment to appoint pastors to churches 'without regard to race, ethnic origin, sex, or color'.  Little support was found to relate receptivity to religious beliefs, motivation, or involvement, except for attendance patterns and for respondents who have women pastors. Effects of racism and sexism education differ significantly. The project appears in six chapters. Chapters I, II and III deal with observed conflict, biblical themes and shaping the workshop respectively. Chapter V suggests that the United Methodist Church has built into its political system a creative tension (conflict) which requires knowledge of conlflict management. A group of fifteen volunteers participated in a six session project, covering the origins and historical context of the class meetings, and four key characteristics--journal writing, use of Scripture, accountability and discipline, and prayer and the sacraments.
