What can we learn from this comparative study?  Historical background, cultural factors, points of emphasis of each church has a lot to do with growth or decline. However, many local churches of both denominations are growing, if there is the dedication of an able, visionary, and spiritual pastor, committed laity, and ministries which meet the physical and spiritual needs of people in the community. Typologies offer a structured way to analyze a congregation's identity.  Historical research and survey instruments create a way to evalute a congregation's identity. Workshops on past, present, and future, along with group discussions, develop a congregation's identity. The results of the study show that congregations can create an accepted body of knowledge about themselves.
