Additionally it proposes a book which will equip Christians to defend the traditional dualistic view of human nature, or the doctrine of the soul. The author surveyed the history of the dualism/monism debate, the biblical view and the philosophical and scientific arguments for each side, in order to explicate the issue. This correlation is explored through lenses of sports medicine, health and wellness, Native American and New Age practices, homiletics, and feminist theology. Part I is an exegetical and psychological interpretation of the holistic, therapeutic wisdom of Mark 5:24-34.  Part II reflects a new paradigmatic shift exploring the meaning of illness from medical, psychological and spiritual perspectives, recognizing that body and psyche are one. The paradoxical nature of illness can empower growth and heal the body/psyche split which has been impacted by reductionistic thinking.  Comparisons are made between body therapy and analytical psychology. The relationship of mind to body and individual to family, together with the emotions of helplessness and hope are explored.  The methodology employed was studying anecdotes and scientific research on the 'mind/body connection' and CPE verbatims compiled in hospital cancer wards, leading a bereavement support group, attending seminars on healing and on church and family systems, reading family system theorists' writings, pastoring a church, and reviewing theological essays on Christian hope.  This research suggests that a discernable and direct relationship between physical health and hope exists. SAI has made a category mistake because it uses the wrong intellectual tool, science, to answer a theological question.  Science is unwarranted to answer theological questions.  Despite the claim that their work is 'value neutral,' proponents of SAI show their values as they attempt to answer these theological questions.  A dialogue between those working in SAI and theologians needs to be established. Biblical teaching, the Ellen G White writings, and contemporary scientific data were investigated.  These three views in psychosomatic relationships were found to be operative in life-style programs of health-conditioning centers in the United States, such as Wildwood Lifestyle Center \u0026 Hospital (Georgia), Uchee Pines Lifestyle Center (Alabama), and Hartland Health Center (Virginia). Based on the above studies, a health education program for Seventh-Day Adventists in Japan that incorporates the concept of psychosomatic relationships was designed. Six CPE students were attached to appropriate amplifiers and a personal computer both administered the statements of the profile and recorded the physiological responses.  As hypothesized, students created increased physiological responses to particular profile statements which were stressful to them.  These physiological data sometimes 1) confirmed the student's self-knowledge, or 2) made the student aware of anxieties about ministry which had previously escaped his or her
