A vision is an inspired view of how life might be that captures one's imagination and stimultates the necessary drive and energy for fulfillment.  The procedure used to foster a parish vision included: 1) writing a parish statement of belief; 2) writing a statement of purpose; and 3) formulating goals for the future that use a process that includes and informs all parishioners. Research involves the gathering of local church history, social information, and demographics.  A study series on the nature of the church and its mission, developed and implemented by the pastor, is presented to a group of laity. At a retreat the laity give formation to the statement, which receives congregational adoption.  Questionnaires help analyze the laity's beliefs about the nature of the church and its mission.  Evaluations appraise the project's content and process and the leader's performance.
