To explore the role of denominations and discipleship, this thesis analyzes the relationship between traditional and contemporary forms of discipleship and denominational vitality. Specifically, it examines the role of the Advent Christian denomination in the lives of a group of worshippers at Northside Community Church. Using adult learning theory and social constructivism, this study reveals how one group of believers has constructed their organizational identities within the Advent Christian denomination and how relationships with other disciples who proclaim to follow Jesus Christ impact their system of beliefs. A Church 360 survey was used to decipher the congregation's perception of their current missional posture. Then, focus groups were conducted to mine out missional narratives from the church's past. Finally, missional experiments were conducted throughout the community. The survey results indicated that people's understanding of their involvement in the mission of God was not uniform. A qualitative research methodology was utilized to field-test an integrated approach to prayer and planning in three different settings.
