The team approach within the caring community seems to fit this need. The 'team' will be an interdisciplinary team whose goal is to provide a more effective pastoral care. As an ordained clergy in the United Methodist Church, one of my biggest frustrations has always been that the 'job' is bigger than one individual can successfully accomplish. The old adage 'two heads are better than one' rings true to me for Christian ministry. Through the years, many have felt that the laity understands pastoral care as the sole duty of the paid clergy. The scriptures clearly show that Jesus did not understand ministry as an individual endeavor, but as a team approach as he sent his disciples out to minister in pairs. Also, Jesus said, 'When two or more are gathered in my name, I am in the midst of them.' This is an expression of community gathering in Christ's name and ministering not alone, but with Christ in their midst. The chief question for this project is: How effectively can a small rural United Methodist congregation embrace the team approach to pastoral care?"],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799721952978403328,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T03:30:03.228Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T13:31:58Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T06:40:18Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"0682dee0-6e4c-4b18-9833-164aaca261a1","accessControl_ssim":["38681519-884f-49ea-9ebb-c9f22c4cec1f"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Missionaries of the present moment: partnering with God at Signal Mountain Baptist Church to reach young adults for Christ"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T13:31:57Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T22:18:30Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["f966694c-0473-4d51-8891-85d504cfc723"],"hasLease_ssim":["e25100ee-acea-45b3-a889-116ced358038"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Beeson Divinity School"],"advisor_tesim":["Mark Searby"],"year_tesim":["2010"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Patrick S Wright"],"keyword_tesim":["Church and community"],"publisher_tesim":["Beeson Divinity School"],"subject_tesim":["Mission of the church","Signal Mountain Baptist Church (Signal Mountain, Tenn)","Church work with youth"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The ministry praxis was conducted for the purpose of enabling members of Signal Mountain Baptist Church to better understand how to reach young adults for Christ in their local community. This hypothesis has not been verified in large churches. Therefore, the purpose of this project was to research the relevant literature and conduct qualitative research at four large self-described missional churches to determine what cultivates a missional culture in large churches. Cross-case analysis of the research data indicated that alignment of organizational practices with a biblical theology and the work of the Spirit are the key factors. AI is a process that can lead to vision discernment by building on past successes and creating a sense of missional alignment. AI is based on organizational and social theory that, when combined with theological understandings, provide the church and leadership with a methodology for discernment that will engage a large portion of a congregation. This is a grounded study that engaged a 1200+ membership church in a large AI. Using the tools of AI, a vision statement was composed and became formative in the church's mission."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["b5eba5c2-141b-4673-9689-2f9720736859"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791127433757327360,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T06:43:50.985Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T12:41:11Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:18:09Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"30e37e2f-f4ab-4889-b6c5-4669a760fd26","accessControl_ssim":["fe3732ff-1711-4834-bf60-d486a54ee25f"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Preaching the missional nature of the Eucharist for Lutheran Christians and congregations"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T12:41:10Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T23:33:17Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["7fba0688-b9e7-4627-b3c5-b445b974862b"],"hasLease_ssim":["7a1ef781-bf88-4a0a-b8db-b6d5df0ac135"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago"],"advisor_tesim":["Timothy V Olson"],"year_tesim":["2009"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["David Michael Doane"],"publisher_tesim":["Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago"],"subject_tesim":["Apologetics","Lord's Supper--Lutheran churches","Mission of the church","Theology","Missions--Theory","Liturgics","Lutheran preaching"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This thesis proposes that the mission of the church to 'proclaim and share Christ' is grounded in the church's participation in the Eucharist and the 'sending' that follows. This missionary incentive is supported by the preaching ministry of the church. Three types of sermons are suggested as best suited to support this missionary incentive, including mystagogical preaching, apologetic preaching and missional preaching. The intended purpose is that listeners of such sermons will develop a stronger connection between their participation in the Table and what it means to be sent for mission and ministry in the world.
