Case studies, literary research, and interviews conclude that political neutrality is impossible, unbiblical, and undesirable.  A symbolic model for social change was developed.  The Foreign Mission Board, as a result of this project, revised its policy on political neutrality. However, Africa has encountered industrialization, rapid urbanization, and migration into the cities.  The mass migration has resulted in poverty, unemployment, housing shortages, hunger and homelessness, prostitution, and delinquent children. Failure to use local languages, culture, and worldview has produced nominal and syncretistic Christians.  This project will help churches to effectively change their way of reaching these people.  The method of research was based on James and Evelyn Whitehead's tripolar theological method of doing evangelism. Es untersucht dabei die Situation eines methodistischen Gemeindebezirkes in der Schweiz mit seinem gottesdienstlichen Leben, seinen Programmen, und seinen missionarischen Engagement in Zaire und Simbabwe, Afrika.  Weiterführend geht es der Frage nach, in welcher Weise vorrhandene Beziehungen verstärkt und neue Kontakte geschaffen werden können.  Besondere Beachtung finden die Bestrebungen, den Bezugsrahmen über die kirchlichen Bereiche hinaus zu erweitern und die Öffentlichkeit über die Printmedien einzubeziehen. The project director also reviewed Baptist history, some selected doctrines, characteristics of Baptists, and the inerrancy controversy in the Southern Baptist Convention.  Each of these areas was examined in light of its impact on mission work.  The thesis of the project was that a designed program of missions education would lead members to an increased awareness of and appreciation for denominational missions.
