This paper studies the reasons for church-mission tensions and proposes general solutions leading to a specific strategy.  The author, in addition to library research, draws upon his own personal experience of 13 years in Zaire.  A new model for church-mission partnership, characterized by mutual responsibility and interdependence is suggested. Called 'project mode,' this new paradigm for participatory partnership was submitted to 23 mission organizations for their evaluation. A strategy being used in a Muslim country was put to a historical, theological, and missiological test.  During this evaluation process it was recognized that a biblical, theological base to shape the approach was not laid. Consequently the strategy was not resulting in glory being brought to God, and also missionaries were not working harmoniously.  Failure to agree theologically about mission results in failure to agree methodologically. The evolution demonstrates a marked shift in meaning from the experience of the Apostles to the use of the terms in today's context.  The shifts are positive because they once again call the laity and the church community to mission and evangelization.  This project focuses especially on the role of the RCIA sponsor. Sponsors serve as examples of lay persons recognizing the call to mission and evangelization.  They are a group in need of formation in mission and evangelization.  The educational design for RCIA sponsors focuses on the role of the lay person and the community in mission and evangelization, and also provides an opportunity for the sponsors to experience the tie between their actions on behalf of the candidates as well as the action of the community. Thus after exploring the Apostle Paul's model of worldview analysis and confrontation as recorded in Acts 17:16-34, the thesis examines the New Age movement and the factors leading people to embrace this worldview.  Then, following Paul's approach in Acts 17:16-34, the thesis applies a similar model of worldview confrontation to the New Age movement.
