This process is based on the manual written by Charles Ridley, entitled How to select church planters: a self-study manual for recruiting, screening, interviewing and evaluating qualified church planters. Research in this project focused primarily on : (1) a careful review of the written assessment reports of more than 260 candidates; (2) administration of a written survey that was completed by the candidates which focused on the progress of their church plants; (3) a follow-up telephone survey and (4) a comparison of the results of the assessed candidates with a control group of forty planters who were not assessed but attempted to plant anyway. Chapter three concerns the study of Paul's missionary strategies in Thessalonica, including his selection of location and people for ministering, his methods of raising the church, his teachings, his working with his own hands, his team ministry and his obedience under the authority of the Holy Spirit. Chapter four presents the study of the principles of church planting and evangelistic ministries for Vineyard Christian Fellowship based on Paul's strategies for Thessalonica. There is no way of being human without participating in culture, for it is through culture that human community is created. This dissertation is a study of the work of 19th century missionaries into Chinland, Union of Burma. An evaluation of the data shows that these missionaries were not sensitive enough to the indigenous culture and tradition of the Chin. She proposed creating the manual with input from recognized church planting experts, sponsor churches, and church planters, and revising it after it had been used by participating sponsors and planters.  The manual was evaluated as failing to motivate uncommitted churches to become sponsors.  It did assist sponsors and planters who were already committed. The thesis was that a selected group of students could be taught concepts of strategy planning and a theology of missions, and then write a missions strategy for the DBU family.  Eight student leaders participated in seven ninety-minute sessions about the role of missions in a Christian's life.  The result of the project was a written strategy to engage the Dallas Baptist University family to understand the biblical basis of missions and their role regarding home and foreign missions.  The process involved researching the history of missions at DBU, training in the biblical basis of missions, and casting a vision of opportunity for DBU in missions. The director trained the students in strategy development and the principles were applied to produce a written strategy.
