An eight-week sermon series was followed by a Sermon Response Questionnaires measuring communication effectiveness according to five levels  (contact, comprehension, acceptance, internalization, and interaction/action) and the congregation's understanding of the intended biblical truth.  Demographics, church involvement and theological views were examined.  Story sermons communicated most effectively at the level of contact.  Significant differences were not measurable at other levels.  The congregation understood the intended biblical truth better in traditional sermons. A narrative sermon is a biblical message employing the use of story and plot to inductively communicate the author's main thought of--ordinarily--a biblical narrative. This project accomplishes this by identifying a theology of preaching, by defining the narrative sermon, by critiquing homiletical books on Acts, by showing how to write a narrative sermon, and by preaching Acts 13-28 to a local church.
