It asked if the historical/theological narrative mandated a balance, how is it reflected and whether the contemporary church seeks to implement such in its ongoing worship. A qualitative design, using semi-structured interviews with eight pastors and one worship director was implemented. The study concluded that the historical/theological narrative does encourage a Word and Communion balance but churches do not view this as mandated and are greatly affected by cultural obstacles and leadership preferences with regard to such implementation."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Covenant Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["e57e5218-1d34-47f5-b1a5-b84efbc9e61f"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791130785934213120,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:37:07.870Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T15:41:59Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T02:39:21Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"45ecb962-b128-4a74-a221-d1ed0c60dc62","accessControl_ssim":["4a17dc91-9bca-4e5d-bc2e-19b49b7a5001"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Peacemaking in the church: claiming the power of the Christian narrative"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T15:41:57Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T00:09:53Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["ec544b6f-9d1c-4d3e-b6de-29511f3c884c"],"hasLease_ssim":["943ae9c9-4779-4baa-90fb-345c7b0048b0"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Carla J Works"],"year_tesim":["2013"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. Peacemaking in the church is an unavoidable call for pastors and church members. They need to put into practice biblical, redemptive ways for peacebuilding as they respond to conflict. The Christian peacemaking approach requires spiritual discernment. The author presented such tools as biblical texts on conflict transformation like Acts 15 and 1 Corinthians 1, narrative theology and narrative leadership in order to claim the biblical faith in Jesus, the Crucified and the Mediator. These are utilized by sorting out 'competing stories' against the Christian narrative that conflicting situations often cause. In favor of the conflict transformation theory and practice, the author presented mediation processes such as the Circle Process that work well in the field of conflict transformation. Also the author stressed the practice of liturgical leadership among Christian mediators or peacemaking pastors and church members."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["5a6e4a36-5801-4bff-8e61-86d7489efb4a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799718763755470848,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T02:39:21.748Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T15:38:15Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T01:40:31Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"1d715b9a-b1b4-4c88-9870-a0360c9dbb9b","accessControl_ssim":["4cd1d6a2-7e86-4541-8c9c-bd35045123f3"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Affirming the suffering identity: re-writing suffering narratives of the Korean-American immigrant through small group Bible study"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T15:38:13Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T23:00:00Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["0c15685a-6b97-4b54-a020-7600597243ec"],"hasLease_ssim":["1a323451-1ac6-4eaf-bc2a-5340346a4730"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Lewis A Parks"],"year_tesim":["2013"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. Personal testimonies realistically depict our everyday life and are at the core of who we are as Christians. In sharing our testimony of what God has done for us in a corporate worship service, we create the space for authentic God-talk to take place among Christians. The basic hypothesis is that since the advent of the megachurch, the small Black churches have followed the trend and exchanged the mid-week testimony and Bible study service for the 'pastor's Bible study.' In losing the testimony service, members lost the vehicle to share their stories and experiences of the Holy Spirit and how they have overcome in difficult situations. The author conducted seven weeks of workshops to educate members on testimony, narrative theology and hospitality, scheduled a week for members to share personal testimonies and listen as an act of love, and administered pre-surveys and post-surveys."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["5a6e4a36-5801-4bff-8e61-86d7489efb4a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799720526140145664,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T03:07:22.489Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T14:04:14Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T02:23:26Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"228c1f70-8257-4edd-8fb6-f19087433cc8","accessControl_ssim":["708055f6-f78a-45ea-a7e2-b565b192f26e"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["A tale of two cities divided: in search of radical reconciliation"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T14:04:09Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T23:09:27Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["cda7e2f9-96f0-43ff-9f51-0db35b68e3ea"],"hasLease_ssim":["7d2a1af3-8925-420d-b4c4-6fdec62e03ab"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Western Theological Seminary of the Presbyterian Church"],"advisor_tesim":["Kristen Deede Johnson"],"year_tesim":["2011"],"location_tesim":["Michigan--Benton Harbor"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Dan J Smith"],"publisher_tesim":["Western Theological Seminary (Holland, MI)"],"subject_tesim":["Narrative theology","Race relations","Church"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["My congregation is not racially diverse. The Introduction explains the writer's discovery of using stories in preaching and critical incidents, which led to the thesis and project. Chapter One begins with an understanding of the use of story in preaching. Story finds its power in shared human experience. The narrative inductive art form of preaching is explored. The flexible application of the narrative method is relationally experienced. It addresses the fractures encountered in life, the loops we are thrown into, and the God who delivers us. Chapter Two presents an introduction to Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) and the understanding of the CISM principles. This chapter examines crisis, CISM techniques, models of crisis intervention and the use of story in crisis intervention. Chapter Three defines the three functions of story: remembering, reconciling, and redeeming. This chapter introduces the 3 R's paradigm model through the use of story in preaching and crisis intervention. Examples illustrate the paradigm's effectiveness in preaching and crisis intervention. Chapter Four describes and presents the workshop. The workshop brought preachers and crisis interventionists together to enhance their use of story in their respective fields. Included in the appendix is the workshop handbook. This chapter assesses both qualitatively and quantitatively the effectiveness of the workshop. Chapter Five is intended as an article which summarizes the importance of story and introduces the 3 R's paradigm in preaching and crisis intervention."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Aquinas Institute of Theology"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["416f1c5f-a1c7-4596-b214-83b6abadee9c"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791129959603896320,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:23:59.819Z","score":1.0}],"facets":[{"name":"resource_type_sim","items":[{"value":"Unknown","hits":72,"label":"Unknown"},{"value":"D.Min.
