These challenges can include financial and health concerns, future living arrangements, final wishes, and discovering the ultimate value of one's own life. Tragically, however, widows, widowers, the never-married and divorcees are often left to contend with such issues alone. Meanwhile they may have adult children who will also be deeply affected by these issues, and are able to help. But that help rarely comes. Instead silence, ignorance, and misunderstanding prevail between the generations regarding the realities that will impact them both. This project is an examination of these issues and the reasons that prevent aging parents and their adult children from discussing them constructively. The research director researched the field of elder care and identified the best practices and developed materials to assist in the training of the selected participants. The director then used these materials to develop a four-session workshop whose subjects included: 'What is a caregiver?,' 'Suddenly you are a caregiver,' 'Encouraging spiritual growth,' and 'Creating a care plan.' Research explored population statistics, theological foundations, and care giving issues. These interviews brought to the surface both issues in senior care ministry and the desire for partnership efforts potentially to ensue. The Service of Remembrance and Consecration provides an avenue for the staff and residents to mourn and to prepare for a new resident's arrival.  The Welcoming Ceremony facilitates the second phase of the transition in which a new resident becomes part of the nursing home community.
