The hypothesis of this project is that the training of nursing home ministry volunteers would improve religious services and visitation programs to residents. The methodology utilized is a combination of qualitative and quantitative research design which includes observations, interviews, surveys, and pre/post tests as methods of data collection. Biblical forms of prayers are useful for praying with persons 'in Christ' and persons 'outside of Christ' when they are in physical decline and dying. The research methodology included interviews, observation, and participation. Thirty-nine residents living in Covenant Village of Northbrook, a Christian continuous care not-for-profit retirement community, were interviewed. Residents reveal strong desire to be praying and receiving Christian prayer in physical decline and death. These adults constitute the leading edge of the Boomer generation (approximately ages 50 to 61) in transition to McGregor Baptist Church's Senior Adult Ministry. The project director's professional goals included research. The research focused on current resources, strategies, and insights available concerning the Boomer generation as it becomes a new wave in older adult ministry. The research helped to establish benchmarks and standards upon which to build. The project director also developed a strategy for ministry to emerging senior adults using a strategy team.
