This project describes the process used to compile a handbook for local church pastors with specific focus on white 'Old Yankee' Protestant women over the age of seventy-five. The project involves the recruitment, training and deployment of a small group of senior lay pastoral and sacramental assistants in a suburban Anglican parish.  The author uses phenomenological research methodology, and as participant-observer describes changes in the participants' self-assessed spiritual status, using as data before and after interviews. The model for pastoral care in the institutional geriatric church represents theory building.
