Eight Black Episcopal congregations in the Diocese of Texas were engaged in tracing their history on three levels: historical timelines, historical documents and photographs, and narrative histories as recorded in interviews.  The timelines, historical documents, and pictures offer an historical context for understanding these eight Black Episcopal churches. The study examines the economic, historical, sociological, canonical and ecclesiological factors that combined to allow the creation, as well as the death, of an institution that validated the life, dignity and faith of one immigrant group in a new and often hostile environment.  A new understanding of 'parish,' coming out of Vatican II, has been institutionalized by the new Code of Canon Law. Easily neglected or denied, the repressed shadow is then capable of actuating the split-off inferior, unattractive, too frequently feminine, side of psyche in such phenomenological forms as projection and scapegoating. Raising the unconscious to the conscious level is not viewed as optional, but mandatory.  Two parish church case studies of conflict support the project's thesis, as well as a chapter devoted to the ontology of evil. Psychologically, the trinitarian image of God is found to be inadequate.  God's nature is more completely symbolized within the quaternity. The author researched the management structures of the Martin Luther King Jr Center's comprehensive social service delivery system in Dallas. The use of the participant-observer research method revealed that administration by objectives should be the basic orientation of organizational management, particularly that of the parish. The mutual critical dialogue among the three sources resulted in recommendations for a renewed ministry to parishioners in behalf of spirituality. Two basic themes out of which the recommendations were generated were: 1) the image of the Church as a community of disciples, and 2) small faith communities. This renewal in a function of approaching parish ministry in all its aspects from within the horizon of spirituality--such that spiritual growth is envisioned as the clear reason and purpose for ministerial activity in all its
