The author hypothesized that increasing levels of unity and partnership within marriage would correlate to higher levels of closeness/intimacy and marital satisfaction. The method used to prove this hypothesis was to infuse marital education with concepts and strategies of unity and partnership in an eight-hour seminar, 30 day exercise guide, email communications, and measuring change in levels over a 120 day period. Yet, through video partnerships, these churches have a chance to be or become missional. The nature of these rural video partnerships has been to help existing but dying rural churches find support and facilitate its health and life. This project surveyed past and present video partners to help determine whether the partnerships were or are achieving those goals. Site visits were made to four nationally recognized United Methodist urban ministries that engage in partnered ministry initiatives.  Insights gained from these visits were applied to the development and implementation of an asset based partnered ministry model for the United Methodist Church Union. How could a congregation move from benevolent benefactor toward missional accompaniment? Surveys and an interview measured the impact of three interventions, Bible study, testimony, and prayer. Theological and Biblical perspectives included missional ecclesiology, accompaniment, spiritual practices, and liberation theology. Theoretical perspectives included post-colonial theory, change theory, and cross-cultural communication. The study used an integrated approach, combining archival and survey methods. Five theoogical issues are explored as they inform partnership. They are the Trinity, the purpose of God (missio Dei), the body of Christ, the gifts of the Spirit, and the church -- both local and universal. A survey was used to have attendees of the CAR Consultation reflect on these theological issues in the context of partnership. These East-West partnerships face many challenges: older Mission Boards who have little local experience and firmly entrenched approaches of the Venn and Williams three-self model, cultural challenges, leadership changes, historical challeges, and financial challenges. How healthy is a partnership model? What exaclty is a partnership model? Which scriptures address a partnership model? Why will older mission strategies of the past not work in the Balkans? Are these partnerships helpful or hurtful? What is most needed to progress? These are questions addressed in this thesis. The intial receptiveness of Grace church leaders was assessed after a PowerPoint presentation via questionaire. Factors are documented that led churches to enter into partnerships. Three passages from Paul's writings (Eph. 1:4-10; 4:1-16; and 1 Corinthians 12) were researched as they relate to cross-cultural partnerships characterized by grace, including Paul's views of community, use of gifts, use of power, and grace.  The theoretical issues researched focused on Geert Hofstede's dimensions of individualism, power distance, and uncertainty avoidance.
