It discusses not only the elderly population demographics in the U.S., but also the necessity for ongoing provision of preaching and ministry to them. It examines the current literature and position of the Church on the provision of pastoral care at nursing homes and assisted-living facilities. We also explores different biblical responses to the ongoing mystery of suffering, sickness, aging, and healing. How did some biblical characters grapple with their suffering? How did they perceive the goodness of God in the face of it? This chapter provides an in-depth analysis of the genre and theological, contextual, and historico-cultural background of some biblical texts concerning suffering, aging, and healing. We will demonstrate the Church's understanding and renewal of preaching in the last fifty years through a review of current literature and official documents of the Church. Though this review will reflect the perspective of the Catholic Church, this chapter also offers an overview of what constitutes Christian preaching and what its rich history, renewal, and methodology have to offer the Christian Church in general. We examine the current practices and ministry of preaching at nursing homes and assisted-living facilities. A review of current literature on preaching to the elderly population enriched the understanding of what it means to preach an effective homily to them. Chapter Five demonstrates a four-part workshop that will aid chaplains and ministers to be more effective preachers to the target population. Increases in a pastor's self-described confidence and competency were reported in questionnaires at the conclusion of the training and at 1 and 3 months following the seminar.  A strong majority felt better prepared to work with mixed agenda couples (polarized as to the future of the marriage) and would recommend the training to others. The study addressed the problem of transforming conservative attitudes about work and leisure within the congregation.  Project implementation occurred in two phases, a congregational survey and a Bible-based leisure counseling group.  Quantitative and qualitative data collected were analyzed using SPSS 13.0.  Eight hypotheses were tested, four were affirmed and four rejected. It measures how God can transform their lives as they increase their awareness of God's presence. This qualitative action research project document describes the actual establishment of a congregational-based CPE program in Fargo, North Dakota.  Using this information and data drawn from the experience of five other founding supervisors of congregational-based programs, fourteen developmental steps and seven founding principles were found to be necessary in the development of a viable congregational-based CPE center. The research examines the difference between accommodation and adaptation, analyzes the extent to which the preacher proclaims the word of God and/or persuades the congregation to respond to the word, and explores the rhetorical strategies of identification and argumentation. The project describes interviews with ten preachers to identify ways they prepare and deliver the sermon in multiple settings from the same text. The study found that preachers do alter the sermon by adapting rather than accommodating to the audience, and have responsibility to both proclaim and
