A survey questionnaire was adminsitered to clients in two separate congregations.  The questionnaire sought to determine whether there were any changes in the long term working relationship betweens the pastors and the clients. A case study was also presented.  The results were largely positive.  Any negative effect was seen only in one client out of sixteen, and that client was still in counseling. The paper found that an aspect of the counselor's identity which is not well developed has an adverse influence on the counseling relationship.  An aspect of the counselor's identity which is mature has a positive influence on the relationship.
